We are excited to bring you the debut vinyl release from Malandro Nine Five, featuring members and former members of The Slackers, Los Granadians, The Pietasters and The Frightnrs. This new 7” EP features four instrumental cuts of decidedly groovy reggae that is heavy on the guitars and sits deep in the pocket. The production is distinctly dated, sounding more like a something discovered in the estate sale of an eccentric British record collector than anything put to tape in the new millennium.
Malandro Nine Five's roots stretch from Buenos Aires to Granada, by way of Washington DC and Brooklyn, NY. If they have any home at all, it would be on Interstate 95, traveling the 200 plus miles that connect DC to Brooklyn. The group is made up of Jorge Pezzimenti (lead guitar), Teddy ‘Dos Dedos’ García (organ), Jack Wright (piano), Steve Capecci (bass), Agent Jay (rhythm guitar), Richard Terrana (drums) and Mike Torres (percussion).
The results sound something like if The Upsetters met The Meters uptown or Roots Radics running into Booker T. & the M.G.'s for the big showdown. Perhaps it's Duane Eddy just spending some time with The Aggrovators in the echo chamber. Or maybe it’s just the sound of Malandro Nine Five.
